Q&A Project Management Careers: Getting Your Mojo Back

After five years of minimal pay rises and development opportunities, I feel I’ve become stagnated and unmotivated in my role. How can I get my “mojo” back? You’re not alone as many project practitioners have also been sitting tight throughout the economic downturn, just being grateful for having a job over the last five years. It’s not surprising that many are feeling uninspired with the status quo – doing more with less; feeling under rewarded; no promotion opportunity on the horizon. The way I see it is you have two options – you stay and make the best of the situation or you leave, and find a new position elsewhere. Before we look at either of these options, there is one thing you need to think about now and that’s addressing the lack of self-development over the last five years. Learning about anything new – or refreshing existing knowledge will not only help reignite your interest in the profession, it will also stand you in good stead for whatever you choose to do next.
