We’ve all observed the “rising star” syndrome in organizations. Some hot shot gets hired, wows the boss by accomplishing some difficult tasks, takes on bigger projects, knocks them off, and then begins a meteoric rise in the company. They can do no wrong and are used as the exemplar for everyone else in the group. And then, suddenly without warning, they start tanking. The boss discovers that the person is  actually human and makes mistakes and they no longer become the shiny object. Why do rising stars burn out? Is it because the organization over-valued their capabilities, or is it something the “star” did to him/herself
